Night mode
It is not dark mode. The colors change too.
Dark mode inverts a palette. This retunes the log colors too — every one lifted to a softer tone, nothing left at full saturation — because at 3am the thing that wakes you is not the background. It is the bright block sitting on top of it.
Side by side
The same screen, twelve hours apart.
Same layout, same numbers, same color meanings. Only the tone moves — and it moves on its own, at seven.
Day, 3pm
Night mode, 3am
Four decisions
Why it reads differently from every other dark theme.
The colors retune, not just the background
This is the difference between night mode and a plain dark mode. A full-saturation block under a soft dim still glares at 3am, so the cards turn to tinted darks, and each log color is lifted toward the text so it still reads in the dark. Bottle, nursing, sleep and diaper keep their own hues; only the tone moves.
It arrives on its own
On Auto, the default, night runs from seven in the evening to seven in the morning on your phone's clock — and any time the iPhone itself is in dark mode. There is no switch to remember at the exact moment you are least able to remember anything.
The whole screen is dimmed, and you can lift it
A soft dim sits over everything at night. Hold anywhere to brighten it for as long as you need, then let go.
Contrast is held, not sacrificed
Text in night mode clears 15:1 in both styles: the blue-slate of Clean and the indigo of Playful. The dimming is a deliberate reduction from a legible baseline rather than an excuse for a design that was hard to read to begin with.
The first night is the one that convinces you.
Open it at 3am and nothing on the screen fights you. That was the entire brief.
